Get active at work

The CSP physiotherapists’ union has backed calls from NHS England chief executive Simon Stevens for the government to support employers who deliver workplace health initiatives.

CSP chief executive Professor Karen Middleton said that Stevens was right to call for government support to address inactivity at work, but also called on employers to recognise the benefits in terms of reduced sickness absence and higher productivity.

“One in six deaths each year are linked to inactivity and we spend the bulk of our weeks at work so it makes sense for employers to take the lead on this,” she said. “We must get people moving, particularly those in sedentary jobs, to keep them fit for work and leading healthier lifestyles.”
