State pension age review

In light of the parliamentary debate on the impact of equalisation of the state pension age on women and ahead of the state pension age review, TUC general secretary Frances O’Grady has called for the mistakes of the past not to be repeated.

“For too long the state pension age has been an easy target for chancellors of the exchequer wanting to make stealth cuts,” said O’Grady.

“Yet again, women, who have long been let down by the inadequate pensions system in this country, have borne the brunt of flawed policy making.”

O’Grady said the forthcoming review should be overseen by an independent commission, reporting directly to parliament and including trade union representatives.
