Local government deal agreed in Netherlands


FNV, the largest union confederation in the Netherlands, has reached a pay agreement with the local government employers, which delivers above inflation rises. The deal runs for 16 months from 1 January 2016 until 1 May 2017, and increases pay by 3.0% from 1 January 2016 and a further 0.4% from 1 January 2017. 


With inflation currently at 0.6% (January), this is a significant increase in real pay for the 165,000 workers covered.


The settlement also provides for the recruitment of an addition 1,000 young people over the period of the deal.
