Health & safety - HSE Monitor

More safety deregulation?

The HSE has recently consulted on the revision of three sets of hazardous substances regulations, as part of a Tory-instigated deregulation programme. The regulations include the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH). It is considering merging COSHH with the Control of Lead Regulations 2002 and the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations 2002.

The HSE is also reviewing the requirements for the inspection or thorough examination of work plant and equipment contained in: the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998; Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998; Pressure Systems Safety Regulations 2000; and the Work at Height Regulations 2005.
