Memo to BECTU — you have recognition deal

A tiny but symbolic recognition deal has been agreed with entertainment union BECTU at a multi-purpose community arts venue in South Wales.

Newbridge Memo, with just six permanent members of staff, comprises a theatre, cinema and library, but started life as a working men’s institute for the local mining community.

BECTU national official Noel McClean said: “Newbridge Memo was built with donations from miners to improve mining town social conditions and to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives in WW1. BECTU is proud to be able to represent the interest of those taking that legacy forward.”
