Average earnings recovering

Double digit earnings growth now being recorded in parts of the private sector is in no way matched by median pay settlements on Payline (see below). The latest AWE regular pay figures (see below) go as high as 10.4% in finance and business services and 11.5% in construction. The 8.4% overall private sector figure contrasts with a 2.1% median on known negotiated private sector lowest pay rates in the three months to June, and 2.3% in the three months to July. These numbers are a sign of how far average earnings fell last summer with millions on furlough, but which are now recovering, with far fewer on furlough (see page 3) and job losses among lower-paid workers.
