T&G welcomes final salary move

The T&G general union welcomed the decision by the H+H Celcon building products group to allow all employees to join its final salary scheme. Previously factory workers only had access to money purchase arrangements.

T&G national secretary Bob Blackman said the union was "delighted that H+H Celcon has bucked the trend".

In contrast the union is maintaining its campaign against the Prudential insurance company to try to safeguard the pension rights of employees of the insolvent United Engineering Forgings company in Ayr.

The union argues that Prudential has failed to tackle a shortfall in the pension fund leaving open the possibility that workers could lose 60% or more of their pension entitlement.
