Union studies stress among ethnic minority teachers

The NUT teachers' union is undertaking a study into stress among ethnic minority teachers.

The survey will look at the sources of stress unique to teachers who teach where their ethnic identity is in the minority. And it will also compare these ethnic minority teachers with their majority counterparts.

The research begins from this month, with in-depth interviews to determine the kinds of factors which induce stress in ethnic minority teachers. The NUT will then send questionnaires to over 3,500 teachers throughout the UK.

The union wants the survey findings to be evaluated by focus groups made up of teachers.
