HSC consults on occupational exposure limits

The Health and Safety Commission has published a consultative document that proposes to change the existing regime of occupational exposure limits (OELs).

The OELs define a concentration in air of a substance averaged over a period of time, which triggers control measures under the COSHH hazardous substances regulations. The key proposal is to introduce a single type of OEL - to be called a workplace exposure limit (WEL).

Copies of the consultation document (CD189) are available free of charge from HSE Books or downloaded on the HSE website at www.hse.gov.uk/consult/live.htm
