Workers' Memorial Day

Trade unions around the world will use Workers' Memorial Day (WMD) on 28 April to remember those who have died at work and to fight for improved health and safety.

This year's WMD theme is "Safe and healthy work for all", with a sub-theme continuing last year's focus of "Employer accountability".

Many trade unions and the TUC are involved in activities to mark the day. The TUC's website (www.tuc.org.uk/h_and_s) lists some of the events taking place.

* The Construction Safety Campaign (CSC) has organised a march and meeting in Wembley, London on 28 April. A wreath will be laid for Patrick O'Sullivan, who died on 15 January after falling 100 feet while working on the new Wembley Stadium. The rally is dedicated to all construction workers killed in the course of their work. For details, call the CSC on 0774 779 5954.
