M&S rumours boost USDAW membership

Shopworkers' union USDAW has launched a national recruitment campaign at Marks & Spencer, following reports that the retail chain is planning to alter the employment contracts of 66,000 employees.

The union has already been recruiting M&S employees in recent months (see Workplace Report, March and April 2005).

"We've doubled the number of our M&S members, and they are telling us loud and clear they want USDAW to be recognised by the company," said general secretary John Hannett.

USDAW has set up a special website at www.union4marks.org for M&S staff to keep up to date with the campaign.
