EU defers a decision on working time

The European Union's council of ministers, which brings together representatives of member states, has deferred a decision on the future of the Working Time Directive.

At its meeting on 8 December, the council agreed that it had made progress, with the UK apparently making concessions on its opt-out, but some issues still remain to be resolved so no decision will be made until next year at the earliest.
