Transport in London

The RMT rail union is involved in two disputes in London — on the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and on London Underground.

Members at the DLR have voted by more than nine to one for strike action over pay, disciplinary and attendance procedures, use of agency and contract staff and failures on training, development and grade progression.

As Labour Research went to press, the RMT executive was considering dates for strike action.

On London Underground, the dispute, which also involves fellow transport union TSSA, is over plans to close all ticket offices and cut 750 jobs.

The RMT has already voted for strike action, and a ballot of TSSA members was due to close on 27 January.

Talks between the unions and management were scheduled for 21 January, with the RMT having set two sets of dates for 48-hour strikes — on 4 and 5; and 11 and 12 February.
