Inflation rises
The prospect of negative inflation receded last month with the publication of figures for the year to September.
The Retail Prices Index (RPI — the unions’ preferred measure) rose from 0.5% to 1.1%, while the Consumer Prices Index (CPIH) including housing elements lagged at 0.7% (also a small increase).
That turnaround was due in part to the ending of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, although transport costs also played a part.
