Pressure maintained over bullying policy

Andrea Leadsom’s resignation as Leader of the House of Commons “must not distract from the essential work on bullying and harassment of parliamentary staff”, professionals’ union Prospect has warned.

As Leader of the House, Leadsom was responsible for the Commons’ new bullying and harassment policy.

She resigned her Cabinet position in protest at Theresa May’s Brexit plans just days before announcing she would run in the Tory party leadership election following May’s resignation.

The FDA civil service union said there had been a major breakthrough when the House of Commons Commission, responsible for the administration and services of the House, voted unanimously to accept in full the recommendations of Dame Laura Cox’s 2018 report into bullying and harassment. But it said the changes, which include an independent complaints process that enable historic cases to be properly investigated, have not yet been fully implemented.
