EHRC programme

The Equality and Human Rights Commission has set out its work programme for the next year, focused on tackling entrenched inequalities and promoting human rights across Britain.

In the employment sphere, work will focus on ensuring job adverts do not discriminate against groups of workers (including ads targeting a particular nationality), as well as on investigating concerns about possible unsafe working environments, discrimination, non-payment of wages and forced labour in the cleaning sector.

The equality watchdog also aims to raise levels of compliance with equality and human rights standards in health and social care, improve disabled people’s access to banking services and opportunities to participate in sport and address the under-representation of women on corporate boards.

In addition, the programme includes work to reduce incidents of female genital mutilation, ensure the safeguarding of people with mental health conditions in state detention and tackle under-reporting of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender hate crime.
