Whistleblower protection
The EU council of ministers, which brings together representatives from EU member states, has formally agreed a new directive protecting whistleblowers against dismissal, demotion and other forms of retaliation.
Whistleblowers will be able to report internally, to the competent authorities, and finally to the public, depending on the circumstances. Member states have two years to incorporate the directive into national law.
