Bus drivers' deaths

A review into the deaths of London bus drivers from COVID-19 has concluded that an earlier lockdown would have saved lives. The review, commissioned by the TFL body responsible for transport in Greater London, showed many bus drivers had underlying health conditions that put them at greater risk during the pandemic.

It also identified additional risks, including where the drivers lived — for example, in areas with above-average levels of deprivation — and their ethnic background.

The authors say recommendations in Public Health England’s report, Beyond the data: understanding the impact of COVID-19 on BAME groups, should be implemented.
