CAC annual report
Applications for statutory union recognition rose from 56 to 69 in the year to 31 March 2020, according to the annual report of the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC).
The 2019-20 applications came from 15 different unions compared with 14 in the previous year. The proportion coming from the manufacturing, transport and communication sectors fell back from a particularly high level last year of 48% to 36%.
The CAC noted that 19 of the 42 cases where unions withdrew their application part way through the process resulted in a voluntary agreement.
