Congress 2014
The 146th annual Trades Union Congress meets this month in Liverpool, under the banner “Britain needs a pay rise”.
The organisation says it meets in “a challenging year for working people and the trade union movement – rising prices, shrinking pay packets and unemployment rates that are still far too high, especially for younger workers”.
A main motion to be moved by retail union Usdaw calls on the government to address the cost of living crisis by promoting the living wage, cutting taxes on low-paid workers, abolishing tribunal fees, strongly enforcing the minimum wage, introducing rent controls and tackling payday loan companies, among other measures.
Conference runs from 7 to 10 September and the Labour Research Department will be there at Stand 72.
