London Underground
A long-running dispute between the RMT transport union and London Underground (LU) concerning casualisation and the use of agency staff — one of many disputes between the union and LU — has led to a ballot for strike action.
The ballot produced a vote of 1,762 in favour to 631 against. RMT members have already undertaken action short of a strike over unsafe working practices and, as Labour Research went to press, a strike was due to be called if LU had not met union concerns.
An even larger looming dispute concerns the closure of LU ticket offices, which is expected to result in the axing of around 750 jobs.
The strike ballot for this dispute closes on 10 January.
