Unite launches immigration law helpline for migrant members

The Unite general union has launched a Brexit immigration law helpline to assist its migrant worker members.

The aim is to help members concerned about the UK’s exit from the EU understand what effect it will have on their right to live and work in the UK. The union says that, despite the lack of clarity over Brexit, there are anticipatory steps that can be taken. The helpline will assist members with advice on their options.

Assistant general secretary for legal services, Howard Beckett, said: “Unite has established this vitally-needed service for our members who have been left increasingly confused and distressed as a result of the chaos caused by the government’s lack of preparation for Brexit.

“Unite’s helpline is designed to cut through the government’s indifference and inaction by providing the clear and concise information that our members who are originally from outside the UK desperately need.”
