Brexit and equality


The House of Commons Women and Equalities Committee has launched an inquiry to consider the impact of the UK’s exit from the EU on equalities legislation and policy. 


It has called for written evidence on legislation; courts, case law and appeals; and embedding equality principles.


The committee chair, Maria Miller, said that the enquiry, Ensuring Strong Equalities Legislation Outside the EU, “is launched against the backdrop of growing consensus on the need for robust parliamentary scrutiny of the UK’s exit from the European Union”.


She said select committees will play a fundamental role in assessing the government’s plans, and making cross-party recommendations based on evidence from a range of stakeholders.
