Pay settlements show little movement

Pay settlements have been flatlining at 2.5% over the past three months, according to an analysis of the Labour Research Department’s Payline database of collective agreements in Fact Service’s sister magazine Workplace Report.

With retail price inflation rising by 5.4% in the year to October, pay is still lagging well behind price rises.

The median (mid-point) for increases in lowest basic pay was unchanged in the three months to October from the previous two periods.

There was some variation between sectors with the private sector median being 2.6% but the public sector only 1.7%; manufacturing had a median increase of 2.5% but services only 2.2%.

Payline gives union members access to data on more than 2,300 collective agreements with large and small employers in both the public and the private sectors. All members and officials of the following unions have access to Payline: BFAWU; Community; GMB; NUJ; PCS; RMT; TSSA; UCU; UNISON; and UNITE.
