PCS in potential merger talks

Conference delegates of the PCS public and commercial service union have authorised the national executive to open discussions on a merger if approached by the Unite general union. Talks are at an early stage and further meetings will take place in May and June.

The conference agreed that the talks should be conducted in a transparent and democratic manner.

PCS general secretary Mark Serwotka said: “We can stay separate, we can carry on being very successful in terms of campaigning and we can still be a very bold voice in the trade union movement. But we want to see if we can be more than that, actually being part of something that can make more of a difference in trying to change things.”

An initial briefing document on the discussions with Unite that provides background information on the logic behind a merger and Unite’s structures and organisation can be accessed by following the link below.
