Labour Research Department AGM

The endless stream of pension changes topped the agenda at the Labour Research Department’s annual general meeting (AGM) on 19 May in a presentation by Bryn Davies, director and actuary at Union Pension Services.

Bryn underlined the need for higher employer contributions into workplace pensions. He said that without this, defined contribution schemes, which most employers are using for auto-enrolment, will not provide a decent standard of living in old age. Most people want a workplace pension that “just works”, he added, and that might mean a bigger role for the state.

The AGM was followed by a meeting of the new executive committee.

The new committee is chaired by Helen Donoghue with Howard Marchant as Treasurer.
