RMT considers rejoining Labour

The RMT transport union, which was expelled from the Labour Party over 13 years ago, is considering rejoining the party.

Its recent annual conference agreed that the union should consult with branches and regions, with a final decision to be made at a special conference.

The now 84,000-strong RMT became the first union to be disaffiliated from the party in 2014 after allowing a number of its Scottish branches to support the Scottish Socialist Party.

Current RMT general secretary Mick Cash said the new move came “in the light of changes to the Labour Party under Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership”.
