LRD AGM's keynote speaker Kendal Bromley-Bewes

Marking the TUC’s Year of Young Workers, UNISON’s Kendal Bromley-Bewes (chair of UNISON’s young members’ forum) will open this year’s Labour Research Department annual general meeting (AGM) on Monday 20 May.

What’s been called the “houseless generation” is contending with low wages, insecure jobs and no voice at work. Kendal has blogged about her own experience working on zero hours contracts, covering shifts other people didn’t want.

“I felt so much pressure and at times I even missed college lectures, in order to go in and work. As soon as I said no, I stopped being asked and my paycheck really suffered.” She says unions need to reach out in new and innovative ways, to demonstrate the practical impact they can bring to young people’s lives.

The AGM is at Jerwood Space, 171 Union Street, London SE1 0LN and starts at 2.00pm. All members and affiliated members are entitled to attend.

They are also entitled to nominate candidates for election to the 17 Places on the LRD board of directors for 2019-20. Nominations must reach LRD by Thursday 28 February. More information from Lewis Emery: [email protected].
