Inflation stable

Cheaper fares, particularly the cost of flights, were offset by dearer energy and petrol prices, and so the rate of inflation in May under the Retail Prices Index (RPI)remained at 3.0%. 


The RPI is the measure preferred by trade union negotiators


Meanwhile, under the government’s preferred measure, the Consumer Prices Index, inflation fell to the government’s target rate of 2.0%.
