RCN leader role

Members of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) have voted against a proposal to review the leadership role of the organisation.

The RCN currently has one post at the top of both its professional body and trade union arms and its May congress debated a proposal to review the joint role, with a view to introducing an elected general secretary.

It was stressed by the proposal’s movers that this was not about the current incumbent, Dame Donna Kinnair, for whom they have respect.

The motion was lost by 205 votes in favour to 338 against.
