Settled status

The UNISON public services union is calling on the government to extend the deadline for applications to the settled status scheme past the current deadline of June 2021.

The union has warned that time is running out for EU nationals in the UK to apply for post-Brexit settled status which gives them the ability to continue to live and work in this country. However, the COVID-19 lockdown has prevented many of them from making their applications.

UNISON general secretary Christina McAnea said that many such EU nationals “are key workers on the COVID-19 frontline and deserve all the support and help we can give — and not be made undocumented overnight”.
