T&G "irregularities"

Three senior officials of the T&G general union, including Scottish regional secretary Andy Baird, have been suspended as part of an investigation into vote-rigging allegations in Scotland during last year's leadership contest. The union described the suspensions as "precautionary".

Claims that votes were faked for one of the candidates, Barry Camfield, have been given credence in an initial investigation by academic Keith Ewing. This has prompted a further inquiry, which is being run by deputy general secretary Jack Dromey.

No-one has suggested that the alleged fraud was known about by Camfield, who came third in the poll.
