Uniting against fascism

Twenty trade union general secretaries have signed up to support the new Unite Against Fascism campaign, which is calling, "as a matter of the greatest urgency, for the broadest unity against the alarming rise in racism and fascism in Britain today."

Chaired by London mayor Ken Livingstone, Unite was set up by the National Assembly Against Racism, the Anti Nazi League, trade unions, MPs and faith and community organisations. It is planning a number of activities in the run-up to the June 2004 elections aimed at alerting people to the threat of the extreme right gaining an electoral foothold.
