Workplace Report January 2011

Bargaining in 2011 - Union reps are not convinced that the private sector can bring a recovery, whether or not they are directly affected by public sector job cuts. Job security remains unions' overall top priority, but with inflation still rising, pay bargaining faces another tough year.

Europe - Pay rises are lagging well behind inflation in nearly all EU states. Cuts and freezes in public sector pay are reducing average earnings rises, but other deficit-reduction measures are also affecting the private sector.
