Stressful commuting

Women find commuting more stressful than men, according to data from the British Household Panel Survey.

Although men spend more time travelling to work than women, women typically add on tasks to their commute.

Professor Jennifer Roberts of the University of Sheffield said: “We know that women, especially those with children, are more likely to add daily errands to their commute, such as food shopping and dropping off and picking up children from childcare.

Women with pre-school age children suffered four times greater psychological impact from commuting compared to men with pre-school children.
