Young Vic pay proposal

Entertainment union BECTU has welcomed a proposal to increase ushers’ pay at the Young Vic theatre, London to £9.00 an hour. It is part of a 2% pay offer to staff at the venue for 2015-16.

National official, Noel McClean, said that, while the offer did not bring ushers up to the London Living Wage level of £9.15, “it would be unfair not to recognise the progress made” given that ushers are among the lowest paid workers in theatres.

“Since January 2013 we have seen the hourly rate for Young Vic ushers rise through staged increases from £6.35 to £9.00 per hour — an overall rise of 41% in just over two years” McClean said.
