‘Ground-breaking’ deal for Liverpool dockers

The Unite general union has agreed what it describes as a “ground-breaking” three-year pay deal for dock workers at Blue Arrow at the Port of Liverpool.

The deal ends the differing contracts of employment which had been viewed as divisive and unfair by the workforce. It also involves a minimum increase in pay of 6% over the three years, and possible additional increases if the port authority agrees.

The agreement stops the erosion of the superior 40-hour contract of employment by aligning everyone to those terms after 12 months employment.

It ends a two-tier sick pay scheme with 168 members getting an increase in their sick pay entitlement. By the end of August 2017, everyone will be on the enhanced sick pay scheme after six months employment.

All employees will have at least two days off for every six days worked under agreed roster arrangements.
