Higher education pay

The UCU lecturers and university staff union has declared a formal dispute with the UCEA higher education employers body, after members voted to reject its 1% pay offer in a consultative ballot.

While most staff would receive a 1% pay increase under the terms offered, the lowest paid points on the nationally-agreed scale for higher education staff would receive higher increases of between 1.2% and 2.65%. This would ensure that all directly employed staff working a 35-hour week would receive the equivalent of the voluntary Living Wage figure of £7.85 an hour.

UCU will hold consultative meetings with branch reps in September to consider next steps.

The UCEA offer has also been rejected by Unite, but accepted by the GMB and UNISON.
