TSSA inquiry update

The TSSA has suspended senior members of staff following the results of an independent inquiry into sexual harassment and bullying within the union.

The rail union said that it has suspended all five senior members of staff named in the report by Baroness Kennedy KC. This includes former general secretary, Manuel Cortes.

The union’s executive committee added that steps will now be taken to put in place an administration to lead the union with the aim of implementing widespread cultural change.

The union’s president and treasurer stood down on the day the report was published, as it recommended. The EC said it was made aware on 8 February, following the report, that Manuel Cortes was still in the employment of the union, and that this was not previously known to the EC. He has now been suspended.
