TUC: let workers watch World Cup

The TUC has called on employers to let staff work flexibly if they want to watch the England Women’s World Cup team play.

The union organisation suggests that employers: talk to their employees in advance about arrangements for flexible working ahead of key games; arrange to show the game on the company’s premises, if appropriate; allow staff to work flexibly; and be as flexible as possible with annual leave requests.

“Employers shouldn’t score an own goal by acting like killjoys,” TUC general secretary Paul Nowak said.

“Whether it’s about watching major sporting events, attending a family celebration or picking up the kids from school, allowing people more flexibility in how, where and when they do their work makes them happier, cuts absenteeism and raises productivity.”
