FBU highlights cuts in fire service
As the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 comes into effect this month (see last month's Labour Research), the FBU firefighters' union is highlighting safety risks arising from cutbacks.
Merseyside firefighters took strike action last month in protest at plans to cut 120 emergency response posts - a tenth of the workforce - and to axe four fire engines at night.
