Equal pay

The Equal Pay Task Force has published a report, Just pay, calling for more action to close the gender pay gap.

However, one of its key recommendations - a change in the law to require employers to review their pay systems to ensure they do not discriminate against women - has been rejected by the government.

The report made other recommendations including improving equal pay legislation and streamlining the tribunal process.

An article on what measures unions can take to ensure that women are paid equally has been written by Margaret Prosser, deputy general secretary of the T&G general union and member of the Equal Pay Task Force, in the March issue of the Labour Research Department's Bargaining Report. Copies are available from LRD on 020 7928 3649.
