NURSERY NURSES PUSH PAY CASE

Nursery nurses organised by public services union UNISON Scotland staged a demonstration in Glasgow last month to push their case for professional recognition in the education sector. They are pressing for a career structure and higher pay levels for the estimated 10,000 nursery nurses in Scotland.

Carol Ball, chair of the union's Nursery Nurse Working Group, told Labour Research that early years education needs to be recognised as a sector in its own right with standardised qualifications for nursery nurses.
