Equality Act implementation

The TUC has welcomed news from the government Equalities Office that the first wave of the Equality Act is going ahead as planned on 1 October.

General secretary Brendan Barber said the TUC welcomed the government’s commitment to implement the Act: ”The TUC campaigned for many years for a single Act to simplify discrimination law and make it easier for workers and employers to understand. The Act also includes some new measures to promote equality and we hope it will be commenced in its entirety”, he said

The government has however still not made a commitment to implement gender pay gap reporting and has in the past said this practice would only be enforced if an employer was found to be discriminating at an employment tribunal.
