Bike and Tube disputes

Members of the RMT transport union are involved in two disputes in London.

Members working on the “Barclays Bike” scheme took strike action on 12 and 13 August over a number of issues. These include: the imposition of a 2% pay increase for 2013; the imposition of changes to shift patterns; continuous bullying and harassment; and the company’s refusal to reach a formal agreement on travelling time or on travel allowances. The bike scheme is operated by outsourcing firm Serco.

The other dispute — on the London Underground’s Victoria line — arises from a number of grievances. These include: forcing drivers to work overtime; failing to hold meetings requested on flexible working, grievances and disciplinaries; and refusal of reasonable requests for annual leave and facility time.

RMT members were being balloted over strike action as Labour Research went to press.
