New general secretary at ETUC

The executive committee of the European Trade Union Confederation (ETUC) has proposed Luca Visentini as the ETUC’s new general secretary. He will replace Bernadette Ségol, when she stands down at the ETUC’s four-yearly congress in Paris at the end of September.

Visentini, who comes from UIL, the smallest Italian confederation, is currently part of the ETUC’s six-person leadership.

His two deputies are likely to be Veronica Nilsson from Sweden, who is also a member of the ETUC secretariat, and Peter Scherrer from Germany, previously general secretary of the European Metalworkers’ Federation.
