Social mobility

The Cabinet Office has released a full list of potential national common measures to identify and boost social mobility in workplaces across the UK.

The list has been developed with major companies to assist employers, including the civil service.

The potential measures include: parents’ professions, qualifications and income or wealth; whether a parent, guardian or carer is eligible or receiving income support; and whether someone is living in an area of deprivation.

The civil service plans to start using the measures in the next 12 months and, following consultation, the government will urge firms and the rest of the public sector to follow suit.
