Flights and fuel push prices up

Higher air fares and dearer fuel saw inflation pushed up in June.

Under the Retail Prices Index (RPI) — the measure favoured by union negotiators — inflation was up to 1.6% from 1.4% in May.

For the government’s preferred measure — the Consumer Prices Index — the annual rate of inflation was up to 0.5% from 0.3% for the previous two months.
