Health & Safety Matters

Offshore fears

Almost four in 10 offshore workers have been in a situation where they were unable to report an incident for fear of victimisation, says a new survey by the Unite union.

The survey also found that nearly 60% of workers in the offshore industry believe that health and safety standards deteriorated over the second half of 2016, and over 80% reported a reduction of skilled personnel. Unite regional officer William Wallace said that the survey showed “a very worrying picture”.

Unite is now calling for a confidential whistleblowing helpline to help workers raise concerns.
