Air quality

London mayor Sadiq Khan has set up a £1 million fund for measures to protect pupils from toxic air after air quality audits in some of the capital’s worst polluted schools recommended action.

The fund will give 50 audited schools a £10,000 starter grant. Other schools in areas exceeding legal air pollution limits can also apply for green infrastructure funding.

Among the recommendations from the audits are major works such as closing roads or moving playgrounds and school entrances and targeting indoor pollution using improved ventilation systems.
